MacGuyver

I just shelled out 5000 bucks on the complete seven season DVD set of MacGyver. It was one of the most popular shows on TV when I was growing up (along with shows like Knight Rider and Mission Impossible).

Watching the pilot episode, I realized that the "Knight Rider Effect" is applicable (The Knight Rider Effect: All 20-something Sri Lankans agree: Knight Rider now looks a lot dumber than it used to). But MacGyver's not quite so bad -- the dialogs and filming may be a little out of date, but in terms of scientific accuracy, it's way ahead of most of today's shows.

Oh by the way, did you know that a lot of us used to call the Swiss Army knife the "MacGyver knife" back then? Apparently the term died with my generation -- I asked a younger guy in office this morning and he didn't know what a "MacGyver knife" was...

Ah I loved that show. Was too young to understand the scientific concepts behind stuff but all those things he pulled off were utterly cool. He was the MAN.

Btw I have this faint memory of one episode about killer ants. I remember one guy being eaten with only the specs left behind. Finally MacGuyver comes with a flame thrower sorta thing and burns 'em all. Not sure if its only my imagination though. Maybe you could confirm after watching all SEVEN seasons!

BTW: is it just me or are blogger word verification strings becoming increasingly more difficult to read and type out?

McGyver was awesome. Looked a lot like Stefan Edberg. I distinctly rememeber him not being too lucky with the ladies. There was a McGyver movie too "rose something..."

And it's not you; I struggled to post this comment.

niroshan: try that DVD shop in colpetty (near prawnies).

sloth: the fact that the guy refuses to use a gun is a bit of a downer for me... other than that he's fine

True, but at least that was one of his unique traits. I remember an ep where his buds were hypnotized into killing some important African chap. Good one.
