Random

Life is like opening a set of Russian dolls. Backwards. Just when you think it's all over, there's another set of hurdles. I thought my troubles were over the day I finished my GCE A/L exam (a Sri Lankan ends his schooling with the A/L's, which is by far the most competitive examination in the country). I was told that university is easy by comparison. I was told wrong.

After A/L's came 4 years of university -- each year tougher than the previous. At the end of it, I thought at least then it would be over. No. Then I had to find a job. Which I did. It still isn't over. Now there's this matter of "settling down" i.e. getting married (before which, I obviously need to locate a suitable other half). And then there'll be kids. When you're done with that, it'll be time for retirement. Sometimes I wonder what the point of life really is...

Oh, did nobody give you a copy of the manual? It's always some bureaucratic fuckup or the other. It's all in the manual, dude.

"Droll thing life is - that mysterious arrangement of merciless logic for a futile purpose. The most you can hope from it is some knowledge of yourself - that comes too late - a crop of unextinguishable regrets."

From 'Heart of Darkness' by Joseph Conrad

even if i did have a manual, the "Purpose" section would probably have the following notice: "Proprietary information available only to the manufacturer"!

the problem with life is there's no background music..

but i think life becomes sort of alright once you realize/accept there's no ultimate purpose..
